We are grateful you are considering volunteering with New Directions. Your willingness to support individuals impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking reflects a deep commitment to creating a safer and more informed community.
Our Mission
New Directions provides resources for the safety, healing, and freedom of individuals who have experienced domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking while also offering preventive education to create an informed and supportive community.

Volunteer Training & Orientation
All volunteers complete an onboarding process that includes:
- Overview of Direct Services & Prevention Education
- Understanding power and control dynamics
- Crisis response awareness and role-play scenarios
- Presentations from legal and community professionals
- Impact of violence on adults and children
- Review of community resources
- Agency tour
(shelter location remains confidential)
Volunteer Opportunities:
Tier 1: Indirect Support (No Direct Survivor Interaction)
Supports the foundation of our work behind the scenes:
- Donation Inventory & Organization
- Data Entry
- Organizing Files
- Event Support (set-up, registration, clean-up)
Goal:
To advance New Directions’ mission of providing safety, healing, and freedom by strengthening the organization’s infrastructure through accurate, consistent, and organized support tasks, ensuring staff have the resources and capacity needed to deliver high-quality, survivor-centered services.
Tier
2: Supervised Engagement Opportunities
- Structured opportunities with staff guidance:
- Activities for Clients (sports, self-care, group activities)
- Prevention on Campus
- Childcare Support
Goal:
To support New Directions’ mission by contributing to safe, empowering, and trauma-informed environments where survivors and community members can experience connection, healing, and growth, while reinforcing prevention efforts that promote healthy, respectful relationships across our community.
All Tier 2 roles require staff supervision. Volunteers may not provide advocacy or facilitate programming independently.
Volunteer Expectations
All volunteers agree to:
- Support individuals impacted by violence with respect and compassion
- Maintain strict confidentiality at all times
- Follow all safety and security procedures
- Uphold non-discrimination and inclusion values
- Remain drug- and alcohol-free during service
- Complete required forms, including emergency contacts
- Obtain staff approval before completing tasks
- Participate in supervision and follow agency guidance
Confidentiality Committment
- All information about survivors, their children, and shelter location is strictly confidential.
- Information may only be shared when:
- Written consent is provided
- It supports service delivery
- The receiving party follows confidentiality standards
Supervision & Support
- Volunteers are supervised by New Directions staff
- Prevention activities follow professional supervision standards
- Roles are assigned based on agency need and volunteer fit
